Abstract

The aim of this study was to investigate the etiological risk factors in primary nocturnal enuresis. Ninety children with primary nocturnal enuresis and fourty healthy children were included in the study. The enrollment began in January 2001, and continued through July 2002. Data were obtained by direct interview with the families and the children and by physical examination and laboratory findings. In the primary nocturnal enuresis group, 57.8% were males and 42.2% were females; in the control group, 60% were males and 40% were females. The average age of the patients in the enuresis and the control groups were 8.4?1.9 years and 8.2?1.8 years, respectively. amily history of enuresis was present 90% in the study group and 7.5% in the control group. Sixty two percent % of the children in the enuresis group were awakened with difficulty while in the control group 7.5% of the children had this problem. There was no significant difference between the two groups in respect to low birth weight and prematurity. Neuromotor development and school success of the children and the educational, social and economic status of the families were similar in both groups. In conclusion, we found that family history, male sex and difficulty in wakening were risk factors in primary nocturnal enuresis.

Primer en?rezis nokturnal? ?ocuklar?n %57.8?i erkek, %42.2?si k?z; kontrol grubunun ise %60?? erkek, %40?? k?z idi. n?rezis ve kontrol grubunun ya? ortalamalar? s?ras?yla 8.4?1.9 y?l ve 8.2?1.8 y?l idi. ?al??ma grubunda ailede en?rezis ?yk?s? %90 oran?nda mevcut iken kontrol grubunda bu oran %7.5 idi. n?rezisli ?ocuklar?n %62.2?sinin g?? uyand??? belirlenirken kontrol grubunun %7.5?i g?? uyan?yordu. Her iki grup aras?nda d???k do?um a??rl??? ve premat?rite s?kl??? a??s?ndan anlaml? fark saptanmad?.
