Abstract

Childhood acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) is treated by combination chemotherapy with a number of drugs, always including the enzyme L asparaginase. Complications of this therapy include allergy, hyperglycemia, deficiency of plasma proteins, thrombotic and haemorrhagic diathesis, lipid abnormalities and pancreatitis. The paper reported here demonstrates adverse reactions in 25 children with ALL undergoing therapy with L-asparaginase and we discussed the clinical presentation, pathophysiology, and suggested treatment of the drug's adverse reactions.
